We have so much wisdom in our body which can easily get dismissed or ignored when we are disconnected from ourselves. And there are so many factors that can contribute to us being disconnected. Here are just a few examples of how it can happen:

  • striving for acceptance

  • trying to get everything perfect

  • sacrificing our own needs and not setting healthy boundaries

  • focusing on other people's happiness and wellbeing

  • overthinking

  • worrying

  • feeling stuck because our fear and judgments are holding us back

It is important to recognize these patterns because it's preventing us from returning home to ourselves!

Our bodies are constantly communicating to us though, by sending signals, sensations, feelings, and our bodies even give us Yes or No responses. How incredible is that! We can tune into the sensations and feelings from our body and get the answers we are searching for instead of looking outwards for the answers.

I invite you to try this embodiment exercise to help you practice reconnecting to your own wisdom:

1) Ground and center yourself: You could either sit, stand or lay down and either lower your gaze or gently close your eyes. It's important to do what feels the most comfortable to you. This allows you to feel safe and cues your nervous system to start slowing down.

2) Witness your breath: As you inhale, notice the texture, the temperature, the quality, and watch where it lands in your body. As you exhale, notice how fast or slow it wants to leave the body. Continue to inhale and exhale at a pace that feels comfortable to you, keeping your focus on your breath.

3) Ask yourself an easy question and see how your body responds: Watch for any sensations that show up. Notice if there's an opening, expansion, tingling sensation or a lightness. These are a few examples that indication a Yes response. Or notice if there's a constriction, a contraction, or a dense sensation. That is your body signaling a No response. Allow yourself time to receive either subtle or loud sensations, vibrations, temperatures and textures from your body. If your body doesn't respond, it might also need more time or more information. It is also important to receive any responses you get without judgement or attachment.

4) Now play around with different questions and witness how your body responds with Yes and No answers.

Know that it might take a bit of time to reconnect to your body, if you have been deeply disconnected from it for some time. Just trust yourself that you will receive a response from your body.
